All your questions answered

Can all poultry eat the Poultry Porridge range?
Yes, Nesty’s Poultry Porridge is safe for all poultry, including chickens, ducks, geese, and more. Even baby poultry, such as chicks, goslings, and ducklings, can enjoy any flavour from the range. Be sure to always add water to ensure easy consumption, as this feed is not suitable to be served dry.
Why should I feed my flock Poultry Porridge?
Feeding your flock a wet mash provides a nutritious, highly palatable meal that even the pickiest eaters will enjoy. It’s also a great way to increase their fluid intake on hot days while boosting productivity. Plus, it offers enrichment, giving your chickens a fun, engaging activity.
What makes Nesty’s Poultry Porridge the better choice?
Made with Australian grains and produced in South Australia, Nesty’s Poultry Porridge range offers nutritious, balanced mashes that your flock will love. With a variety of flavours and carefully selected ingredients tailored to poultry nutritional needs, there’s something for everyone. They are free from antibiotics, all-natural, and our Veggie Mash is vegetarian-friendly.
Can I feed Poultry Porridge dry or without water?
No, Poultry Porridge is designed to be mixed with water and served immediately. Feeding it dry may cause chickens to choke or struggle with the large pellet sizes.
Can I use cold water instead of hot water to prepare the Poultry Porridge?
Yes, you can use warm, hot, or cold water. However, cold water will take longer for the porridge to soak and reach the desired consistency.
Can Poultry Porridge be my chickens' sole diet?
The Veggie Mash contains all the necessary vitamins, minerals, energy, protein, and fat for laying poultry. However, Nesty recommends complementing it with pellets, a grain blend, or Nesty Complete Feed. While Veggie Mash meets nutritional requirements, it is best served as an instant meal rather than a feed to be left out, especially in hot weather.
Which Poultry Porridge is best for my flock?
All of the mashes are suitable for your flock, but if you're unsure, here are some suggestions:
  • Energy Mash: Ideal for providing a nutritious energy source while leaving room for additional protein. It features rolled and crushed corn mixed into the porridge for palatable energy.
  • Veggie Mash: A vegetarian option, packed with vitamins and minerals, legumes, grains, and lucerne chaff for a nutritious and tasty mash.
  • Super Mash: Contains mealworms and a rich source of vitamins, minerals, and flock-favourite ingredients, making it a popular choice.
Can I feed other treats to my flock along with Poultry Porridge?
Yes, but keep treats to no more than 10% of your flock’s diet. Always provide clean water and ensure pellets or a grain blend are available for ad-lib feeding.
Can I mix additional treats into my Poultry Porridge?
The Super Mash, Veggie Mash, and Energy Mash already contain a variety of treats, so no extras are necessary. However, we have a Plain Mash option coming soon, allowing you to customise it with your flock’s favourites. Contact us for more details.
