Fourteen Reasons to love Nesty
Each ingredient has been selectively picked to ensure quality, with majority of our ingredients sourced from
Australian Farmers.
Rice Bran
Rice bran is a nutrient rich by product of rice milling, containing natural oils, protein, fibre, and essential minerals. It contributes to feed palatability and energy density while supporting a balanced nutritional profile. The inclusion of rice bran also enhances feed texture and uniformity, making it a versatile ingredient in both grain-based and pelleted formulations.
Concentrated Vitamins & Minerals
A concentrated and balanced vitamin and mineral formulation specific to the needs of laying, breeding and show poultry. Formulated by animal nutritionists, it is designed to assist in normal body functions, growth and reproduction.
Hulled Oats
Hulled oats are a nutrient dense cereal grain that retains the bran layer after dehulling, providing a balanced source of energy, protein, and fibre. They support steady energy release through digestible carbohydrates and contribute to feed structure and texture. Naturally palatable, hulled oats are a versatile ingredient suited to a wide range of feed formulations.
Barley
Barley is a versatile cereal grain valued for its balanced energy, fibre, and protein content. It provides a slow release source of carbohydrates, supporting steady energy availability in feed formulations. Naturally palatable and digestible when processed, barley also contributes beneficial roughage, aiding gut function and overall feed balance in mixed grain or pelleted diets.
Lupins
Lupins are a high-protein legume rich in natural fibre, energy, and essential amino acids. They contribute to balanced nutrition through their digestible protein and oil content while supporting feed structure and consistency. Naturally low in starch, lupins provide a sustainable plant-based ingredient with excellent nutritional density and functional versatility in feed formulations.
Cereal and Lucerne Chaff
Rough-cut cereal and lucerne chaff provide a natural, high-fibre feed ingredient valued for promoting healthy digestion in small animals. The coarse texture supports natural chewing activity, assisting in maintaining dental wear and digestive function. Lucerne adds quality protein, calcium, and essential nutrients, while cereal chaff offers balanced roughage for gut motility and feed variety.
Corn
High in carbohydrates and low in fibre, maize (corn) is easy to digest and a valuable source of energy. Maize can increase weight and contains less sugar than sweet corn. Cryptoxanthin is a colour pigment present in corn that may help give egg yolks a brighter yellow colour too. The high calorie, low protein content makes maize an essential and widely used cereal as part of the balanced diet.
Black Sunflower Seeds
Sunflower seeds provide healthy fats and antioxidants, whilst improving the quality of hens eggs and boosting their immunity. Rich in vitamin E, sunflower seeds provide energy and can aid in the moulting process and periods of stress. The high linoleic acid content is essential for keeping poultry at a healthy weight, particularly throughout winter, where plumper chickens will handle the cold better.
Mealworms
Mealworms are a highly nutritious and well accepted addition in chicken diets. Rich in protein, mealworms assist in growth and development, feather growth and repair, and enhancing egg quality. They are a fantastic source of amino acids necessary for chicken health. The nutrients in mealworms can help strengthen the immune system of chickens, making them more resistant to diseases and infections.
Peas
Peas are a highly digestible legume ingredient valued for their balanced protein, energy, and fibre content. They provide a natural source of amino acids, starch, and essential nutrients while supporting feed structure and consistency. With a mild flavour and smooth texture, peas contribute to palatability and nutritional diversity in feed formulations.
Linseed
Linseed, also known as flaxseed, is a natural source of essential fatty acids, particularly omega-3s. It provides valuable energy and supports balanced nutrition through its oil, protein, and fibre content. Linseed also enhances feed texture and palatability, contributing to consistent blending and overall feed quality.
Calcium Carbonate
Calcium carbonate is a natural mineral source commonly used to support balanced calcium levels in feed formulations. It contributes to bone and eggshell strength while aiding in the maintenance of proper mineral balance. Finely ground for even distribution, calcium carbonate ensures consistent quality and stability within blended feed mixes.
Coarse Wheat Bran
Coarse wheat bran is a highly digestible fibre source that supports rumen and gut health across a wide range of livestock. It promotes steady feed intake, improves manure consistency, and helps stabilise digestion, particularly in grain based or high energy diets. It also provides moderate protein and phosphorus, contributing to balanced nutrition without excessive starch.
Fine Wheat Pollard
Wheat pollard is a palatable, energy dense milling by product that supplies digestible fibre and moderate starch for livestock. It supports gut function, encourages consistent feed intake, and helps balance high forage or low energy rations. Pollard also contributes useful protein and phosphorus, making it a practical ingredient for maintaining condition and supporting growth and production.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can all poultry eat Nesty’s Poultry Porridge?
Yes, Nesty’s Poultry Porridge is safe for all poultry, including chickens, ducks, geese, and more. Even baby poultry, such as chicks, goslings, and ducklings, can enjoy any flavour from the range. Be sure to always add water to ensure easy consumption, as this feed is not suitable to be served dry.
Why should I feed my flock Poultry Porridge?
Feeding your flock a wet mash provides a nutritious, highly palatable meal that even the pickiest eaters will enjoy. It’s also a great way to increase their fluid intake on hot days while boosting productivity. Plus, it offers enrichment, giving your chickens a fun, engaging activity.
What makes Nesty’s Poultry Porridge the better choice?
Made with Australian grains and produced in South Australia, Nesty’s Poultry Porridge range is manufactured in a Feed Safe Accredited Feed Mill and offers nutritious, balanced mashes that your flock will love. With a variety of flavours and carefully selected ingredients tailored to poultry nutritional needs, there’s something for everyone. They are free from antibiotics, all-natural, and perfect at feeding the fussiest of feeders.
Can I feed Poultry Porridge dry or without water?
Whilst the Poultry Porridge (mash) range is designed to be mixed with water and served immediately. Feeding it dry is an option, working similar to a pecking pellet to provide long term stimulation. Always feed with caution and supervise hens if feeding dry, as it may cause chickens to choke or struggle with the large pellet size.
Can I use cold water instead of hot water to prepare the mash?
Yes, you can use warm, hot, or cold water. However, cold water will take longer for the porridge to soak and reach the desired consistency.
Can I feed other treats to my flock along with the Poultry Porridge?
Yes, but keep treats to no more than 10% of your flock’s diet. Always provide clean water and ensure pellets or a grain blend are available for ad-lib feeding.
Is your feed organic?
No, our feed is not certified organic. We focus on maintaining a low carbon footprint and using premium, consistently sourced grains. Organic certification often requires frequent ingredient changes due to supply variation, which can compromise nutritional balance and quality. Our priority is stable, science backed formulations that deliver consistent results. Our grains are traceable right back to the grower, with some even being grown on our very own personal farm.
My chickens love this Veggie Mash. I have been adding warm water and feeding it to my hen and chickens, as a supplement to their chicken crumble. The little ones actually get in the dish to get to it. My other hens also get some with Gut Guard added, to boost their health.
