HOW TO SOW:
Step 1: Using a rake, lightly scratch your soil surface to gently till the desired planting area. Use 25g per metre squared or a higher rate for a lusher appearance.
Step 2: Spread the seeds ensuring the scratched soil surface will allow seeds to be sown 10mm below the surface.
Step 3: Using a shovel or rake spread the soil to cover the seeds.
Step 4: Water and wait 8 to 12 weeks depending on the environment for the plants to establish.
Step 5: Apply fertiliser in the second week post sowing to encourage plant growth. Leave 30 to 50mm of length to ensure regrowth.
Remember to keep your furry friends off the planted area until it is ready for them to consume. Water regularly for best establishment.

This blend is best grown in trays or beds of soil. It is a low sugar, high fibre solution to help reduce hay requirements.
Nesty Boxes recommends using two shallow trays, drilling one with holes and adding soil then placing it into the other to catch drainage. Sow the seed 10mm below the surface and water to keep moist. Graze when the Pet Pasture reaches 15 to 20cm in height and aim to leave at least 5cm to ensure regrowth.
Fertilise and keep in a warm, cool dry place and not in direct sunlight for best results. This mix is formulated by Agronomists and Animal Nutritionists using certified seed to ensure the very best for your small animals. If you have any questions, contact Nesty Boxes directly.
For best results grow in soil. Whilst we provide instructions for both sowing and sprouting, the sprouting method only works once and won't provide you with a long term forage option. Under well managed systems, growing in trays of soil will provide you with months of forage and growing in soil beds will provide you with years.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the benefit of sowing vegetative seeds for my Small Animals?
By growing crops specifically for your small animals, you can improve their nutrition, have happier Rabbits & Guinea Pigs. A varied diet provides enrichment and stimulation and is a valuable source of vitamins and minerals. Seed blends last far longer than purchasing vegetables for your animals and will reduce their consumption of hay and feeds whilst grazing the vegetation.
How do I know when my seed blend is ready for my furry friends to eat?
The blend should be approximately 15cm to 20cm in height, with an established root system. Test by tugging on a plant; if it uproots, the sown vegetation is not ready for your hens. Once you can tug on a plant and not have it uproot, it will be ready for its first grazing. Monitor carefully to ensure you do not “overgraze.” If unsure, contact Nesty Boxes directly.
How do I best manage my plants so they regrow back?
The key is to not “overgraze.” Ensure that the plants don’t get too trampled or eaten right down to the base. Shorter periods on the vegetation will enhance the lifespan of the blend. Watering is strongly encouraged to keep the plants fresh, lush, and palatable. For best results and to ensure longevity of plants, sow directly into soil or planter trays with soil. Please note that not all the varieties within the seed blend are designed to grow back and therefore may only last one or two grazings. However, if managed correctly, the blend should last you many months to years.
Will the blend last all year round?
When planted in soil or trays with a soil bed, this blend contains an array of varieties to ensure you grow forage all year round but will require watering. Apply fertiliser every 6 to 8 weeks to encourage regrowth.
What size area will 950g of Pet Pasture sow?
950g of the Pet Pasture blend is suited for 10 to 20m2. You can sow the blend more heavily for a lusher plantation. Sowing lighter than this recommendation will increase the possibility of weeds and is advised not to do so. For best results, sow the blend 10 to 20mm below the surface and water immediately. Aim to water once a day for at least 1 week post sowing. Fertiliser is recommended but not essential, check out the Nesty Boxes gardening range for suggested fertilisers.

Amazing product
I am growing it in seedling trays so I can rotate them around. My buns love it and it makes it easier to give as a healthy treat rather than sugary fruit and veg which gives them tummy ache.

Pet pasture sprouting blend
I sowed the seeds in a rectangle container. The trays are in full sun. When it sprouted the grass got burnt. It never mentioned on the packet where to grow the grass. I assumed full sun. I kept the grass moist.
