How and When to Mulch Soil Booster Back Into Your Veggie Garden
When to Mulch Back In
Mulch or incorporate Soil Booster when the plants reach peak biomass, typically:
The blend should be ready when:
Legumes: Just before or at early flowering. Brassicas (mustard, rape, radish): When canopy is full and leafy Cereals (oats, ryecorn): When they reach 30–50 cm tall
This stage delivers:
-Maximum organic matter
-Optimal nitrogen levels
-Best root structure benefits
How to Mulch It Back In
1. Cut the crop close to the soil surface
Use secateurs, a hedge trimmer, shears, or a whipper snipper.
2. Leave all biomass on top of the bed
Spread it evenly as a thick mulch layer.
3. Water it thoroughly
Moisture helps microbes break it down faster.
4. Optional: Lightly fork or turn it in
For quicker breakdown, mix the top 5–10 cm of soil with the chopped material.
For no-dig gardens, simply leave it on top.
5. Let the bed rest
Allow 2–4 weeks for decomposition before planting heavy feeders like tomatoes, brassicas, or corn.
Fast crops (lettuce, herbs) can be planted sooner if material is mostly broken down.
How to Grow:
Sow 15-20mm below the surface by scratching up the soil, using 25 to 40g per square metre. The optimal time to sow is in Autumn, or late spring. Warm temperatures and a wet soil bed will help this blend establish best.
Whilst this blend is designed to persist, we encourage you to water during dry spells andsow around the break of the season (Autumn).
Fertilise when sowing with high nitrogen and phosphorus based fertiliser. This will assist in early leaf development and root growth. Approximately 100g per square metre.
