All your questions answered

Can I feed Nesty Treat Blocks as my poultry's main diet?
No, Nesty Treat Blocks are a treat only. They should be fed as part of a balanced diet. Standard chicken grain or pellets should be provided as the major component of your flocks diet accompanied with fresh, clean water and shellgrit for gizzard health.
Can I feed Nesty Treat Blocks as part of a balanced diet?

Yes Nesty Treat Blocks can be fed as part of a balanced diet but should not exceed 10% of their total diet. A standard chicken grain or pellet should be provided as the major component of your flocks diet accompanied with fresh, clean water and shellgrit for gizzard health.

Note that the Nesty Treat Blocks ingredients change and where there is the inclusion of wheat, hulled oats, barley, lupins, or peas, the feeding rate can be higher than 10%.

What results will I see from feeding Nesty Treat Blocks?
Feeding Nesty Treat Blocks will stimulate your hens minds and enrich their lives. Encouraging desirable behaviours whilst minimising bad ones such as feather picking and bullying. Providing your hens with this fun treat will give them something to do and keep their minds and bodies active. Lustrous feathers and more alert behaviours may be observed too.
Why is this block only available seasonally?
Nesty offers a Chicken Feed Block all year round but we like to release special formulations known as our seasonal treat blocks so that backyard chicken owners across Australia can treat their flock with a new surprise. The seasonal block ingredients regularly change to create variety and allow for stimulation, it is a fantastic opportunity for chicken owners to give their chickens something new. As the Nesty Treat Blocks are a treat only, we like to release them seasonally to discourage users from feeding treats out to an excessive level. Poultry treats including sunflower seeds, meal worms, and other treat like items should not exceed 10% of your flocks total diet. However, if you particularly love one of our seasonal blocks, inform the Nesty team, and we may consider making it a permanently stocked product.
Can Nesty Treat Blocks be fed to poultry other than chickens?
Yes, the Nesty Treat Block is safe to feed to all poultry. It is best suited to laying poultry or birds over the age of 16 weeks.
Is my Nesty Treat Block vegetarian only?
The Nesty Nutrient Blocks contain dried Mealworms, a rich source of protein, fats, minerals, vitamins, and amino acids. The Nesty gluing agent also contains a small percentage of gelatine (a product derived from animals). Therefore, making it not vegetarian only. Chickens are, however, an omnivorous species and will benefit from eating meats and meat by-products as it is a quality source of protein and valuable nutrients. If you seek a vegetarian only option, contact the Nesty team, or keep an eye out for special release blocks.
Does the Nesty Treat Block contain additional vitamins and minerals?
Salt (sodium chloride) and calcium (in the form of shell grit and calciprill) is included in the treat block as a small percentage but should not be relied upon as your poultry's sole mineral supply. The Nesty Treat Block is formulated to be a treat only and should not exceed 10% of your flocks total diet. An adequate poultry feed such as Nesty Complete, standard chicken grain, or pellet should be fed as part of a balanced diet. Note that the Nesty Treat Blocks ingredients change and where there is the inclusion of wheat, hulled oats, barley, lupins, or peas, the feeding rate can be higher than 10%.
When would I feed my flock a Nesty Treat Block?
Feeding treats to your flock should not exceed 10% of their total diet. Treats are a great way to assist chickens who are moulting or have recently experienced stress. It can also be a fun activity for poultry that don't get out much. There is no right or wrong time for when you can provide a Nesty Treat Block to your flock, but just keep in mind it is not a complete feed and should be fed accordingly. Note that the Nesty Treat Blocks ingredients change and where there is the inclusion of wheat, hulled oats, barley, lupins, or peas, the feeding rate can be higher than 10%. If your hens just love eating feed blocks and you find it has been an excellent source of enrichment, Nesty recommends you try our Nesty Feed Block. This formulation contains wheat and can be fed as a complete feed or part of a balanced diet. It has reduced fat levels and is a safe and fun alternative.
How long will my Nesty Treat Block last?
It is advised that treats do not exceed 10% of your poultry's diet. Where hens eat 120g per head per day, each hen should consume no more than 12g of treats. Thus 1x 500g treat block is enough to supplement ~41 hens. Keeping in mind that the Nesty Treat Blocks ingredients change and where there is the inclusion of wheat, hulled oats, barley, lupins, or peas, the feeding rate can be higher than 10%.
